Tree Pruning Specialists

Heartwood Tree Care prides itself on using their experience to prune trees correctly, not lop or perform untoward damage to the future longevity of a trees structure or health.

Correct tree pruning takes into consideration tree species, maturity, and its ability to put on reactionary growth to reduce the risk of decay after pruning works.

Heartwood Tree Care offers high quality tree pruning works

Tree Pruning is an art and a science and we have years of experience in tree trimming work on trees of all sizes and shapes. We take great joy in working for customers who care for their trees and the environment, and we will always aim to retain your trees where possible through a wide range of tree pruning services, including corrective, formative, clearance and reduction work.

We are not in the business of just cutting down good trees. If a tree can be retained safely through pruning or bracing that will always be our first option!

We complete tree pruning services across Melbourne's North and East including the following suburbs. If you don’t see your location here, get in touch and we’ll let you know if we service your area.

Qualified Arborists

With years of experience, to ensure the highest quality and safest work.

Tree Pruning works we perform include:

Weight Reductions

View of an arborist's ropes and karabiners in the canopy of a tree as he completes a weight reduction through pruning techniques.
Weight reduction is a pruning technique that involves the light reduction of lateral branches on a tree.

This kind of pruning reduces the likelihood of overextended branches breaking.

Canopy Reductions

Canopy reduction pruning involves reducing the complete canopy of a tree to correct pruning points.

This is commonly completed on ornamental and European species of trees, less so Eucalypts.

Service Wire Clearance

Received a notice from your power provider that your trees are to close to your service wire?

Heartwood Tree Care ensures correct distances between foliage and wires are maintained to save you unnecessary fines.

Property clearance

A range of trees surrounding a property being cleared by arborists who are pruning and removing branches.
Pruning branches away from your house reduces leaf litter in gutters as well as reducing the chance of property damage in the event of branch failure.

Retrenchment pruning

Sometimes a tree is on its last legs. Retrenchment pruning reduces the overall span of a tree to reduce the risk of it failing.

Hedge trimming

Regular hedge trimming of common species such as James Stirling Pittosporums, Ficus and many Cypress species, ensures privacy in your property as well as maintaining an aesthetic green space.

Words from Happy Customers

Parrish, Sam and Greer did a great job pruning our big ornamental trees, fruit trees and removing some shrubs. They were professional, punctual, efficient and friendly, and Parrish is impressive with his expertise. I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Tree Pruning

Q: How often do I need to prune my trees?

Every tree is different so this is a hard question to give an exact answer. We will often revisit a client’s trees every 2 to 5 years based on a number of factors including the amount of regrowth, and the size and location of the tree.

Q: Can you just lop my tree?

Lopping or hard pruning of trees is really only acceptable as part of a tree management plan for a retrenchment prune. Hard or poor pruning often creates a lot more issues than it solves. The tree goes into shock, putting on rapid epicormic growth that is poorly attached. As a result, within a year or two, you have a tree that is a similar size, with long epicormics that are much more likely to fail and cause damage.

Q: Will the pruning hurt my tree?

We base our pruning works and recommendations on over a decade of experience, ensuring the tree has the vigour and capacity to compartmentalise and seal over pruning cuts. We will not recommend works on trees we wouldn’t perform to our own trees.

Q: I'm looking for tree pruning near me, do you service my area?

We work across many locations  in the northern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Check out our service locations to see if we come to your area, then book in a free quote for your tree work!
